Unknown MMA Class of 2018: Featuring Best Dressed, Jessy Jess

Imagine if the UFC was a school and all of its fighters were students under the watchful eye of principal Dana White. Conor McGregor would have to serve in school suspensions for consistently being late. Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier would always be in detention for shouting at each other and interrupting the classroom. Tyron Woodley and Brian Kelleher would be the guys’ freestyle rapping at their lockers between classes all while Esther Lin captivated everyone’s photo perfectly for the school yearbook.

Class yearbooks always had superlative awards in the back pages that would try to foretell what the future holds for its students. Derrick Lewis would be pictured as the class clown. Katlyn Chookagian and Elias Theodorou would battle for the crown of “best hair” and Ryan Hall would take home “most likely to succeed.”

The most prestigious honors in those yearbooks were always “best dressed” and “most unique.” Both of those awards would easily go to Jessica Rose-Clark. Often found wearing classic footwear paired with urban streetwear style companies such as The Hundreds, Miss Jessy Jess has a style in the cage that matches her freshness outside of it.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, JRC stated that she grew up going around in a van with her family. They would travel to different communities which would later be the key to having an appreciation for all walks of life. MMA was a natural fit for Jessy. With backgrounds in basketball, softball, and soccer, athleticism is displayed in her work in the cage each fight.

She made her MMA debut in 2012 across various promotions in her native country of Australia. Oceania has become a hotbed of pure MMA talent with fighters like Dan Hooker, Israel Adesanya, and Tai Tuivasa. Jessica is a part of that surge, leading the way for Aussie females in her young UFC career. Her style is full of energy and pace, landing 4.6 strikes per minute at a 50% accuracy. Opponents also have to think twice about attempting to take her to the canvas, as she stuffs more than 56% takedown attempts.

Today, she is the number #9 125lb female in the entire world. With big victories over high profile names such as Paige VanZant and Bec Rawlings, JRC has secured her spot amongst the best in the world. Her physicality and broad skill set in every aspect of the game make her a tough challenger for anyone in front of her.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, Jessy wasn’t able to compete in a scheduled bout against Andrea Lee at UFC on FOX 31 in Milwaukee. After speaking to her team, nutritionists, and UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard, she has decided to return back to the 135lb bantamweight class. While a newcomer to 135 in the UFC, Jessy has competed in the weight class before in Invicta FC and was the former bantamweight champion for Australian promotion Roshambo.

Jessy Jess has captured the hearts of thousands of fans across the globe in the cage and on social media. It is not a rare occurrence for her to see a fan’s tweet, like it, and comment back to them. Her socials are full of behind the scenes training in camp, fight news and fashion photos that deserve to grace the cover of Complex Magazine. She also likes to show off an array of over 50 interesting tattoos Fight fans can follow her on Twitter at @MissJessyJess.

The sky is the limit for Jessica Rose-Clark. Her continuous evolution as each fight passes should be for all future opponents. She would be the coolest student at the school of MMA. Her outfit 2 months into the semester would be fresher than everyone else on the first day of class. Not only would she excel in DanHardy’s psychology class, she would also be begged to join coach Matt Serras wrestling team. Whether she decided to join the wrestling team with CoachSerra, hang with Sean O’Malley and the Diaz brothers for their own form of extracurricular activity after school, or work part-time at Mark Henry’s pizza shop, JRC would excel at whatever she chose to do. She is a very unique fighter, an even more unique human, and the progression of her career is a delight to witness. With the titles of “best dressed” and “most unique”acquired, expect an additional title of UFC Womens Flyweight or Bantamweight champion to be added to the collection in the future.
