Following UFC 232 and the phenomenal art piece of Amanda Nunes, I spoke with artist Danilo de Almeida a bit about his creative process and inspiration behind his digital artwork. I’ve seen his Amanda Nunes photo being shared all over Twitter and Instagram so I’d like to give the fans an opportunity to learn a little more about Danilo as an artist!

Go ahead and introduce yourself.
My name is Danilo de Almeida, I’m from Brazil. I’ve been drawing since I was a kid, but I started to create digital art 11 years ago when I discovered Photoshop, I used Photoshop 7, it’s been a long time ago. I learned to use the software tools, but I never created anything really interesting because there was not a place to show it to other people who were not my Orkut friends and later at the beginning of Facebook. But when I joined Instagram and met other artists, I started trying to edit and create good art.
How do you feel about the progression of your artistry over the months/years?
At the beginning I made some basic posters, nothing very exciting, and I stayed like this for a long time. However, in 2015 when I met the art of the famous BossLogic I forced myself to improve my skills to one day get close to what he does. And now at the end of 2018, I got results that made me very happy.
How many digital pieces would you say you’ve done over the years?
I believe that today I have done more than 100 pieces just about MMA. The first drawing I did was in July 2015, when I started to follow Ronda Rousey’s career (I am a big fan of her history in judo and MMA).
What is your creative process?
To create, I do better when I’m inspired. For example when I finish seeing a fight that makes me very excited, or know that a fight is going to happen that I would very much like to see. For example, Khabib Vs. McGregor, I edited a lot of stuff about, before and after the fight. So, if something inspires me I will create much better and faster.
Did you have the Amanda Nunes photo already drawn or did you work on it after her win over Cyborg at UFC 232?
To tell you the truth I only had an art about Cyborg. But while I was driving from work to home, the idea of art about Amanda came up and I was glad I could take it out of my head and put it to the screen.
What’s your favorite piece?
My favorite piece, I recently did a parody of the Last Supper with the UFC champions (and Conor, haha).

What’s your favorite type of photo to create?
My favorite type of art is to imagine the stare down between fighters that will meet soon, for example the one I did recently from Anderson Silva and Israel Adesanya. It’s going to be a great fight.
What are your career goals?
My desire to do something better and better inspires me to continue creating and with that one day achieve one of my goals, do something official with some fighter or fight event. Of course, the biggest goal is to do something with the UFC.
Your Instagram bio says you are a WMMA fan, what draws you to women’s MMA in particular? Part of my website is Fem MMA, so it’s cool to me that women’s MMA is part of your inspirations.
I like to follow whole MMA world but I really love to follow everything related to female athletes. I love seeing the girls who look like Victoria Secret models, making fierce and bloody fights. They’re strong, they train hard every day, I think it’s really powerful.

Can people reach out to you for paid photo commissions or prints of your artwork? If so, where?
So, whoever needs a commission, just DM me on Instagram @DaniloAlmeida.Art, I’ll try to do my best And I’m researching methods to sell prints outside Brazil, the shipping cost is very high if I print here and send.
Where can people check out your artwork?
The main social network where I post everything is on Instagram: https://instagram.com/daniloalmeida.art And the best pieces I put on Artstation: https://www.artstation.com/artbydanilodealmeida
